Hacking Ebay Search – Remove Words but Search ALL
Scenario:
I’m interested in all Ebay items within 10 miles of my location in a certain category. I want to see all items, but remove irrelevant items as I go. Essentially the Ebay version of the friday ad or gumtree, how do you do this?
Solution:
1.) Make sure you are logged in, so you can do certain search restrictions, such as, limit the range to your postcode.
2.) Browse to Category through top Drop Downs. (note no need to do this if you are searching a main category, like Antiques).
Example Sub Category:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Agriculture-Farming-/11748/i.html
3.) Click Advanced Search (on the right of the blue Search button at the top).
4.) In Enter Keywords or Item Number, use this special string I created, copy and paste this in the top.
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
5.) Select from the Dropdown next to it, Any Words, Any Order
6.) Now put your exclusions in the “Exclude words from your search”
books, manuals, catalogs, leaflets
7.) Scroll Down, and Limit the Search to 10 miles, and put your Post Code or Target Location in.
8.) Click Search and all the results will be listed, minus your unchoosen.
You might think you can just put negatives in, but sadly it comes up with an error, but what this does is match everything, as it’s search for the 1st letter based on our alphabet.
Enjoy!
